Book A Day Challenge #2 | Last Read

Day Two - Last Book I Read...

Chasers Of The Light by Tyler Knott Gregson

I'm never really sure how best to tackle poetry collections. I've been dipping in and out of this one for around a week or so and I just finished it this morning. It's a really interesting concept and the notion of stumbling across a typewriter in a junk shop, tearing a page from a second hand book you're going to buy and typing a poem without really thinking about it is incredibly romantic, one of those 'this is meant to be' moments.

There are at least a handful of gems in the collection and I particularly liked the blackout poetry pages, perhaps because it's something fairly new to me & something I'm especially interested in at the moment. There were a fair few that I couldn't connect with at all, however I don't think they fall into cliche territory and I appreciated Gregson's clear voice throughout. But I can't shake the feeling that there's something missing somewhere. Perhaps this is a collection that will benefit from two or three re-reads sometime in the future. I know that I will absolutely keep picking it up and flicking through because I often find that poems may not resonate at first, but on another day they can really make an impact.

If you've read this collection, or seen Gregson's work online I would love to hear your thoughts!

What was the last book you finished reading?

  1. The last book I finished was "Zealot" by Reza Aslan, about the historical Jesus (his youth and revolutionary tendencies, not his 'status' as the Christ). I'm not religious whatsoever but very interested in the historical aspect of it all.
The last fiction book I read is "The adventures of Tom Sawyer" by Mark Twain, a classic I've been meaning to read for years. Liked it a lot!
