Book A Day Challenge Day #1 | Iconic First Line

I just saw this challenge on the Penguin UK twitter page and although it's really an instagram challenge & I don't have an instagram account, I just couldn't resist getting involved here instead! I'm going to try and not think about the prompts too much and go with the first thing that pops into my head each day, otherwise I'll have too many options and not be able to decide! (I'm the worst decision maker!)

Nineteen Eighty-Four by George Orwell
" It was a bright cold day in April, and the clocks were striking thirteen"

Which iconic first line from a book would you choose?
